Group/Centre Activities

Group/Centre Activities are designed to provide individuals with disabilities the opportunity to participate in engaging, inclusive, and structured activities that promote personal development, social interaction, and community participation. These activities are aimed at enhancing skills, fostering meaningful relationships, and improving overall well-being, all in a supportive group or centre environment. Group/Centre Activities are tailored to individual needs and preferences, ensuring everyone can benefit from an enriching experience.

The Purpose of Group/Centre Activities

Group/Centre Activities play a significant role in supporting individuals to:

  • Build and maintain social connections with peers and the broader community.
  • Develop practical life skills through guided activities.
  • Engage in recreational, educational, and therapeutic activities that improve mental and physical health.
  • Foster independence and confidence in everyday situations.
  • Have fun and experience new interests in a safe, nurturing setting.

NDIS Funding for Group/Centre Activities

Under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), Group/Centre Activities may be covered under the Capacity Building category, which aims to help individuals achieve their goals, particularly those related to skill development and social participation. This funding can cover a variety of activities, including:

  • Educational programs
  • Social outings
  • Health and wellness activities
  • Creative and artistic workshops
  • Skill-building programs for personal development

The NDIS funding allows flexibility in choosing group activities that align with your goals, preferences, and support needs, ensuring each experience provides value to the individual’s long-term personal growth and community involvement.

Benefits of Group/Centre Activities

  • Social Engagement: Participate in group activities that encourage communication, teamwork, and building friendships.
  • Skill Enhancement: Develop both practical and soft skills through a variety of hands-on and goal-oriented activities.
  • Community Involvement: Gain confidence in interacting with the community through structured outings and social programs.
  • Health and Well-being: Participate in physical activities designed to promote overall fitness, mental health, and well-being.
  • Creative Expression: Explore artistic and creative workshops to express yourself in new and meaningful ways.

Flexibility and Personalization

Group/Centre Activities are flexible and can be customized to meet the individual needs of participants. Whether someone is seeking physical activity, educational learning, creative expression, or simply a chance to relax and socialize, activities are planned and adapted accordingly. Our services ensure that every participant’s unique abilities, interests, and goals are taken into consideration, offering personalized support throughout their experience.

How to Access Group/Centre Activities

While Group/Centre Activities may not always be automatically included in your NDIS plan, individuals can request these services by:

  • Allocating funds from their Capacity Building or Core Support budget.
  • Discussing with a Planner or Local Area Coordinator to ensure the activities align with personal goals and needs.
  • Making adjustments to their NDIS plan as their needs evolve, ensuring continued access to beneficial group activities.

When Group/Centre Activities are Not Funded

Group/Centre Activities will not be funded by the NDIS in the following cases:

  • Activities that are not related to the participant’s disability support needs, such as general recreation or holiday programs without a direct connection to their goals.
  • Activities that primarily serve as entertainment rather than contributing to personal development or skill-building.
